Dear men #2

Handle Yours

This situation we’re currently facing has caused me to take an even harder look at my role as husband, father, and citizen of the world. As I scroll through my social media feed sometimes it’s appalling to see some of the bickering and divisive comments being made by some. When I generally turn to social media, I do so for a little relief from the stress of life. Encouragement is vital at this moment in time. Unfortunately, as of late, finding something positive on the news or social media is becoming increasingly more difficult.  There’s this steady stream of arguing back and forth about politics from non-politicians. Everybody seems to be an expert on who should’ve done what and when they should’ve done it. There’s political bullying. There’s racial divisions. The list goes on and on. Several times over the past few weeks I considered shutting down all of my social media accounts. Recently, I heard what I can only describe as the Father’s voice. He spoke like He normally speaks..in one to two word phrases. This time He simply said, “Handle Yours.” When I heard it, I knew exactly what was meant.

If you would allow me a few minutes I’d like to break it down as practically as I can the way I interpreted it. You see as a husband and a father I have business that I have to handle with every second that I’m allotted on this earth. That business isn’t taking to social media to tear down some filthy rich politician who doesn’t even know that I exist. I can’t wait for them to do what I alone am supposed to do for my family. No he or she has their agenda. God gave me mine. It’s in the form of leading and serving my beautiful wife of 15 years  along with my 2 awesome daughters. No I don’t have time for your pointless debates or your questions about who I’m voting for. My family needs my leadership. They need me involved in moving our family’s mission forward. Later for everything else that detracts from that calling. The Most High put us on this earth in this time to accomplish an assignment. So I’m not going to give up social media because part of my calling is to be a voice of empowerment  and not disempowerment on that platform.

I want to encourage you to get laser-focused in the same manner. Don’t fall for the “thirst traps” on social media or the evening news that try to seduce you away from your purpose. Handle Yours! Every home in our communities needs a morally upright Yah-fearing man to cover his family. You’re called to raise up warriors for the next generation. You can’t do that when all of your free time is focused on the negativity that the enemy pipes into your home. Turn the news off for a minute. Go on a social media detox for a few days. Use this time of lockdown and uncertainty to figure out what you’re supposed to be making happen in your house. The world is waiting for your family’s impact. What business(es) are you supposed to be starting? Are there kid entrepreneurs in your house that you might be neglecting while you’re “busy” thumb-scrolling through foolish arguments? As long as there’s breath in your lungs you’ve still got time. Handle Yours brother! I can’t wait to see what good things you and your tribe bring into this world when you do.
